Bring criminal charges against the owners of Green Acres pet boarding facility, Todd and Maleisa Hughes for the neglect and death of 23 dogs that died while in their care.
The Issue
We, the citizens of Arizona, petition the Maricopa County Sherriff to bring criminal charges against the owners of the Green Acre pet boarding facility, Todd and Maleisa Hughes. 23 dogs suffered a tragic and avoidable death, and may have even been abused as well. Todd lied to several of the pet's owners, telling them that their pets had run away when in fact they were lying dead in the Hughes shed. Todd made sure a necropsy would not be able to be done due to the decomposition that occurred in the twenty four hours the dogs were in their shed. When the Hughes offered their pet boarding services to the public, they took on the obligation to provide safe conditions for the dogs, with proper food, water and supervision. They have betrayed our trust, and their actions during this crisis are nothing short of dispicable! They were responsible for these animals, and their excuse of being out of town and having family members checking on the dogs does not absolve them of their culpability in this matter. These poor innocent dogs deserve justice, and it is time to send a message that we will not tolerate animal cruelty and neglect! We ask that the MCSO do a very thorough investigation, and bring charges of neglect and possibly animal cruelty against all involved. In addition, we ask that the Green Acres facility be shut down, and that the people involved, upon conviction, be forbidden to have any contact with animals in the future. Our pets are beloved members of our families, and it is an outrage that a pet boarding facility entrusted with their care allowed 23 dogs to die. Let your voice be heard, please sign this petition. Thank You.
