No More Paid Administrative Leave

No More Paid Administrative Leave
The Issue
Administrative Leave grants police officers temporary leave from work while under investigation with pay. Although this does not insinuate a guilty plea, a deadly shooting has taken place and a life has been lost. This is not the case in all administrative leaves, but in the case of a deadly ending, we all need to reconsider whether an officer gets paid during this time off and all at the expense of the taxpayers. I for one do not want to pay tax dollars for a salary of an officer who was shown on video to murder an individual who is unarmed, running naked #DavidJoseph. Or one man held down by two officers and shot in the chest #AltonSterling. Or a child playing with a toy gun at a playground #TamirRice. Or a man being shot inside Walmart after picking up one of the toy guns off of the shelf #JohnCrawford. As an officer, one is to serve and protect the people, nor fear and scare the people. There is no way you can fully protect a person if you are afraid of them and every violent incident ends up with the statement, "I felt threatened or feared for my life." Until our states can have officers whom are familiar with our personal communities and how to work with us, I do not want to pay for administrative leave when there is an officer involved shooting. Pay should only resume if the officer is still employed after the investigation. A customer service phone representative can have a bad day and hang up on someone. A police officer can have a bad day and take a person's life.
