North Cove Marina Management has successfully operated North Cove Marina for 10 years and supported the Manhattan Sailing School, New York Harbor Sailing Foundation and the Manhattan Sailing Club, providing affordable access to sailing and the harbor to all of the downtown community. The sailing school and foundation educate our local children and adults in seamanship and water safety, and support our local schools as well as empowering disabled people to sail.
From what we read in the press, none of the other proposals have a track record of supporting the downtown community, particularly after 9/11 and hurricane Sandy. Brookfield have short changed the local community & residents over and over again with delayed construction and continual disruption.
Battery Park City Authority's mission statement says: "All decisions will reflect the public interest and support a public benefit to our stakeholders, the City of New York, tenants of BPCA, residents and workers in Battery Park City, the downtown community, and tourists/visitors to Battery Park City..."
This mission statement is best met by awarding the lease to North Cove Marina Management, a downtown small business run by a BPC resident, as apposed to a mega corporation run for the benefit of shareholders. North Cove Marina Management has demonstrated 10 years of managing the marina for the public good and in a manner which has generated huge community support.
