I am a long time Polar user. Started back in 2005 with the Polar F11, moved to F55 and after the FT line came out, I took the FT80. After 2 years with the V800, I have returned to my beloved FT80 as I was unable to find a replacement for the STAR training program with any Polar product and with any other product on the market.
I have personally lost 7 kg and got in great shape by following the STAR program and its predecessors on the F11 and F55. I am a simple person who just wants to have a personalized training coach with a simple goal: be fit, be healthy. I do not want to go for a triathlon, nor am I looking forward to marathons. I do not want pesky alerts, nor do I need iPhone integration. The STAR training program is exactly what I need and I bet I am not the only one out there.
I am planning to keep using the FT80 for the foreseeable future and Polar's decision to shutdown the polarpersonaltrainer.com site is unfair to all legacy users of Polar. The platform is stable and the maintenance costs should be minimal.
If however, Polar would not, for whatever reason, keep the original platform, please offer a viable alternative to its loyal customers. By viable alternative I mean:
- Release a final version of the FlowLink software that will export the data on the client side just as polarpersonaltrainer.com currently does. This will allow us to upload our data in an third party product and keep track of our progress.
- Opensource the FlowLink protocol so developers could build bespoke client applications that will directly interact with the FlowLink hardware.
