Recently a group of my classmates and I were inspired to take major environmental action when we saw new and alarming climate data, including the recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports. California has set a goal to go 100 percent renewable energy by 2045 as stated by the recently passed SB100, but this would still allow for significant warming, which still entails mass destruction. More ambitious action must be taken. We are the youth, and the future will be our everyday reality in the coming years, which is why we started the CA Can't Wait Movement based on recent statewide climate legislation passed in the state of Minnesota. Our Climate Inheritance Resolution, as we call it, would require the state of California to declare a state of climate emergency, cap our emissions by 2030, and implement carbon sequestration through restoration and preservation of natural carbon sinks such as forests and wetlands. This resolution would slow down, stop, and reverse the effects of Climate Change before it is too late. We will inherit the future, no matter the condition, so we need to take action now.
