This is a world where education is made to set students up for success in life.

But I want to ask you a question. How will they succeed in life if they might not have one?

That is a question any students that experience seizures have to ask themselves every day. But you can help us make this country a better place for students, like me or any other student that suffers from seizures.

When I was younger, I was hospitalized for 3 days due to a seizure, and could only breathe with the help of a ventilator.

Another recent event highlights the importance of this problem.

I was running in PE class, when I felt the unmistakable feeling I always get before a seizure. Within two minutes, I was having a seizure, and no adults noticed. Not a single one. The only people who even cared enough to check on me were my friends. Students. Untrained kids.

Many seizure-related deaths occur because nobody present was trained in seizure first aid.

Teachers being trained in identification and response could save hundreds, if not thousands of lives each school year—including the lives of students in our very own classrooms.

We need trained staff. We need awareness. We need a school where students are actually safe.
