Petition updateMandatory CCTV Cameras for Vulnerable disability children and adults in Places of CareThe lack of protection from the NDIS for the vulnerable - not protections from harm

The NDIS refuses to do anything about abuses by their providers of the people in their care at the same time allowing the NDIS to become haven for criminals to make their money and steal from the vulnerable - one wonders what the government or Bill Shorten is playing at?
The leadership of NDIS seem ignorant as they allowed the NDIS to become a business rorted by as many as can do it posing as providers but really are thieves – the government as allowed this as if it is doing that on purpose. Why? So that they can say its not working let’s get rid of helping those with disabilities? Since there is no restraint on the providers spending of the participants' funds and no restraints on how they treat those in their care who have been paid to give care to, then the situation grows worse. https://www.nds.org.au/.../governments-ndis-annual
Out of control -
It seems as if everything to do with the NDIS is out of control – the money taking by providers and the abuse of the vulnerable has never been regulated or called out by the government the best you get out of Shorten is warnings that providers will be penalised for stealing the funds. It was noted in the ABC news this week that only 1 in 10 providers are actually registered with the NDIS out of the 160,000 providers for disabilities in Australia. So only one provider in ten is accountable even then not really, they are not checked or pulled up for abuse, they get away with murder literally and have become the dirty rotten scoundrels of Australia which the government has not properly punished or taken hold of and regulated properly if ever.
Also noted with Evolution services in the 7.30report ABC “This investigation has uncovered further allegations of excessive physical force and neglect at ESS. 7.30 has confirmed that, in July last year, another male worker allegedly kicked a woman in ESS care in the stomach and pinned her head to the ground. Last September, that ESS support worker was banned for three months. The company has also cared for children with disabilities who are on the NDIS.”
The Criminal Element -
Mentioning Evolution disability services again from Hunter Valley NSW, an NDIS provider, apart from the criminal they used as a support worker, who was only moved to another house in Evolution disability services after hurting a disability man and breaking his arm, the worker now finally sacked, already holding a criminal record. Yet not charged and not punished. For shame. Noted in the ABC news article 7.30 has confirmed that the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has the video and has been sent a copy of the report. (At least there was a video we need cctv in disabilities) Professor McVilly said this kind of violent restraint was banned by the NDIS regulator.
“We wouldn’t accept it in any other situation. Why should we accept it for people with intellectual disability?” he said. This person has been attacked by those who were there to provide care and support. They’ve been run at, forced onto a couch, held down, and then shouted at, and called an ‘Idiot’. It doesn’t get much worse than that.
“Best practice would have been for the staff to withdraw from the situation to allow the person space and certainly for the staff to have attended to the other residents that we saw in the background … away from that situation.“ And if they’d been trained appropriately, they should have known that.” He said physical restraints should only be used as a last resort to prevent death or critical injury.
Workers Not trained appropriately -
They have not been trained most workers at all. What is the bar or standard for hiring a worker in NDIS? Nothing. Luckily there was cctv or filming going on of the breaking the arm incident or no one would believe you certainly not the judge in a court. The police even give up investigating cannot be bothered, they know it would not be enough evidence in court a broken arm done by workers. Surely neglect must have a place here if not assault. Police have become as slack toward disabilities as they had become to domestic violence which still continues. The violence in disabilities is not addressed or taken to court, thrown out by lack of evidence, lack of evidence, lack of evidence. We need the CCTV cameras.
There is also a young girl with Autism and ADHD, called Jessica (pictured above) who was taken into care by Evolution at the age of 11 years old, as her foster parents could not manage her. Yet at Evolution this girl was treated worse not better, so that it hurt her parents more than helped them or their foster daughter who was traumatized by the three years of care. Jessica came home with bruises on her, and she became withdrawn telling her parents that the staff had held her down (against disability practice), pushed and shoved her.
Does no one care what they do to our lambs? Why is NDIS allowing these criminal providers? Where are the trained, educated, and caring workers that should be with our most vulnerable in society? No we get prison type, bullies in a caring role which becomes an abuse the weak role. Or young people who have no idea what to do and are not supported in caring - we need experts in disabilities to be oversighting group houses and programs and checking them all, supervising and reporting on them an independent regulatory organization.
Jessica was kept in filthy conditions her parents said (why did the provider get the thousands or millions of funding off NDIS for doing that to this girl?) and their was very little food in the fridge, the bed sheets dirty with stains. Jessica said the workers would slap or hit her or hold her down. Her occupational therapist said that to calm Jessica down you just had to de-escalate her verbally she never had to restrain her if she was upset or aggressive like these uncouth rough ignorant workers did.
NDIS rates lift again
Why is Bill Shorten allowing providers to get so much money at the misery and expense of those who need real care? Money for harming and neglecting those with disabilities. Today in the news the rates for workers have gone up – putting more pressure on parents fighting for their children’s funding to have enough to pay for services. It seems weird that Bill Shorten keeps saying he is cutting back on the NDIS spending and then knocks up the prices of the rates again. What kind of game is he playing? He contradicts himself. Letting the crooked providers continue to operate despite fraudulence despite abuse of those in their care then he ups the rates of the workers to give them even more money! Attracting more criminals into becoming providers.
Jessica is traumatised by the treatment she received from her NDIS provider for three years, while she was just a child and young teen. The people dishing out the abuse are the providers being paid taxpayers money to look after those in disabilities, yet the vulnerable are not being looked after at all. Abused and neglected and uncared for. Noted by the foster parents of Jessica “Jessica’s mental health began to decline very quickly; she became socially withdrawn,” Therese said. “I then realised that she had a lot of bruising on her and when I would ask and question her, she would say that it was the staff that held her down, or that had pushed and shoved her.”
Shut the criminal and negligent providers down -
Previous workers at Evolution say it should be shut down - and the OT for Jessica also said Evolution should lose its accreditation and be shut down.(ABC News) However, instead the NDIS quality commission just did a compliance supervision for three years – completely ignoring the seriousness of what has occurred there. Once again failing to punish appropriately. Bill Shorten saying anyone who does these things will be dealt with – then he proceeds not to deal with them or punish them.
Evolution declined to be interviewed and the NDIS commission declined to be interviews, Bill Shorten’s office declined to be interviewed. He probably needs to check out what to say with his speech writers as he seems to have nothing to say the rest of the time. His office made a statement - “All disability providers and support workers must have safety front of mind when it comes to supporting people with disability,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. “We will not hesitate to take action where providers fail to keep people with disability safe.” https://www.abc.net.au/.../ndis-provider.../103814678
Yet there has been nothing but hesitation on the part of the NDIS to take any action on providers only when they are forced to by the media it seems will they do anything to punished.
Death and harm in Disabilities is preventable - This is why we need the law to step in and we need to use the law on the NDIS and its providers.
Sign my petition for CCTV cameras in disabilities to be made mandatory so that we have evidence and protection against harm for our children in care and programs which are not policed or regulated properly at all by the NDIS: change.org/disabilitycameras
