Goodbye Anne Marie they never cared for you like they should have...
The Sins of Omission…in disabilities by Providers, and the NDIS… when you know what you should do but you don’t do it…Too late to apologize to Anne Marie Smith or her parents who had already left this earth, for her death at the hands of a disability ‘care’ provider.
The NDIS Quality commission fails to address crime adequately and Stuart Robert previous minister for NDIS, says they didn’t know what happened to Anne Marie…well how about finding out about the people you are supposed to be caring for? …
I cried when I read the article by Tim Dornin yesterday (ABC News 28 July 2021) about Anne Marie Smith’s carer, Rosa Maione, admitting she had unlawfully killed Anne Marie who had Cerebral Palsey. Anne had been given this one carer from Integrity care at the last few years of her life. She was not fed, bathed or moved for the year by the carer before she died. Before this she had been loved and cherished by her parents who passed away and then she was at the mercy of disabilities care organizations and NDIS but they showed no mercy or care.
The carer, Rosa, called an ambulance for Anne Marie at least she did that, after she saw something was wrong – how long did she wait the whole year to call an ambulance???and then Ann Marie died in hospital as her organs shut down. No doubt the police and nurses and doctors, would have been traumatized by the sight of Anne Marie and what she had been through.
It happened last year during the Pandemic and we parents of disability children and adults were shocked and horrified and traumatized by finding out what happened to Anne Marie smith. The carer is even alleged to have stolen Anne Marie’s money left for her by her parents, jewellery is missing, the refrigerator is missing and the car chalked up fines when Anne Marie could not drive herself. The carer was cruel in her neglect of Anne Marie one wonders how she could be so cruel. A psychopath ? A sociopath? Or someone who just wanted the money and didn’t care, like many of the disability providers.
The article noted that a school friend of Anne Marie’s who had known her since childhood used to see her often but then had a falling out and didn’t see her that last year. If she had she would have seen what was happening to Anne Marie. But she didn’t. She says now she wishes she had than perhaps Anne Marie would not have died. Really she needed to be the one who visited Anne Marie Smith considering Anne Marie could not move the friend needed to reach out to her. This seems to be so common this not reaching to each other even knowing the other person needs help or a friend. This seems to be a selfish society but it results in our own demise if we keep making the excuses Anne Marie’s friend said she had made to herself not to see poor Anne Marie. She turned her back then when she had a friend in need.
If we do that it probably will also happen to us that we will not have our need met one day when we are desperate and cannot help ourselves. It stands to reason.
Similarly previous ndis minister Stuart Robert said you cant blame us because we didn’t know her situation – well why didn’t you check up on her since she could not fill out forms or give you her answer herself? She had Cerebral Palsey for God sakes. You don’t even check if they are ok? What are you oh follower of Jesus. That is not the way of Jesus at all.
How could the independent investigation on the NDIS commission let them off just because they didn’t know? What kind of a pathetic excuse is that? One that gets frequently used by politicians to let them off the hook of all kinds of wrongdoing against the vulnerable here in Australia e.g robo debt, and the old people dying in Victoria. Daniel Andrews would not take responsibility but made sure the people of Victoria did and railed at them to not be complacent. His lockdowns causing much of the suicides by those who saw no future for their lives as young people, or those who had lost businesses or were so isolated they gave up feeling too alone. Typical behaviour of those who have the power to do good but don’t because they are too busy being selfish and having a good time, but one day they will all pay.
WE saw the ABC program on Afford disabilities, and how Merna died there because they did not read her profile that you need to supervise her in the bath as she had seizures, it was all written in the records but not seen apparently by the workers. and Afford Disabilities house had doors that locked from the inside so no one could help her anyway. What kind of sick practice is that? They have parties on Sydney harbour using al the money they get from the poor sods they don’t look after properly and have a good time anyway celebrating themselves. The CEO resigned and then came back but the board didn’t want him back. Why because he was guilty of what happened to Merna drowning in care…and he was now a liability? Always about the money their hearts are hard and cold. They wouldn’t like it if they were treated like that and left to die alone with no help. They need to be punished for their crime of neglect afford. Just like Integrity care was but only finded $12,000 for causing the death of someone in their care. Spare it….that is hardly enough for what Anne Marie Smith went through.
Well its too late to apologize now to Anne Marie because she is dead. And you don’t need to apologize to the parents because lucky for you they are not here. What would you say them ? Sorry we starved your daughter we just wanted her money? Once again how despicable that you let someone die in your care, a vulnerable helpless person whose parents had left all that money and you made sure you took it. Shame on the NDIS for ignoring Anne Marie smith’s need and letting her die also you are culpable too. Even though you plead ignorance. Its too late to apologize and an apology is not enough now anyway. You need to be punished you and your little cohort providers like Afford disabilities taking the vulnerable person’s money and then not even doing the right thing – looking after them. You are too busy focusing on all the money you are making to actually care for those in your care.
No wonder parents of disability kids are hypervigilant we spend all our lives wondering what will happen to our children, we are like soldiers in a minefield never knowing what could happen next because our children with disabilities have not been adequately protected by the government or justice system from the deviant and greedy in disabilities.
I hear they are starting an extended taskforce into the money rorts by disability providers - to make sure the government gets the millions back that were stolen from our children's funds - well of course they want the money
but how about a task force for hunting down those who hurt our children instead of letting them walk away scott free everytime a disability person is hurt, all 7000 incidents of harm to the vulnerable last year. No prosecutions. NDIS commission should be ashamed...they said to me that with no cameras just like the police there is no evidence...the injuries and bruises are just not enough...but we will not force the providers to have cameras said the commission girl oh no we cant do that...if it was about the money they would...at the moment they protect the providers from being found out. A day of reckoning needs to come. We need the cctv cameras to be mandatory in disabilities until then our children and adult children remain at high risk of hidden violence. This must be stopped and called out or there will be more unexplained deaths and bruises to the vulnerable in disabilities.
all the best
