As someone who has witnessed the vast, pristine forests of Vermont being monopolized by privileged classes for their exclusive entertainment, I find it deeply troubling. This is not just about preserving nature; it's about equality and inclusivity. We have a chance to turn this situation around and use these resources more equitably.

Vermont's ski resorts like Stratton are underutilized during the off-season, while at the same time, there is a pressing need for housing migrants entering the United States. With Vermont's small population and labor needs, this state could be an excellent fit for migrants in search of work opportunities.

According to data from The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), as of 2018 there were approximately 5,000 immigrants living in Vermont - only 1% of the state’s population (MPI). This indicates that there is room to welcome more immigrants into our community.

Furthermore, reports from U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics show that Vermont has one of the highest unemployment rates in America due to labor shortages (BLS). By providing housing for migrants at these underutilized hotels during off-seasons we can help address both our labor shortage and provide much-needed support for individuals seeking a new life in America.
