Mandate USPS to Assign Unique Zip Code 18513 to Throop, Lackawanna County, PA
The Issue
As a resident of the Borough of Throop in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, I am personally affected by the lack of a unique zip code for our community. Currently, we share many similar street names and a zip code (18512) with the Borough of Dunmore and the City of Scranton. This has led to confusion for delivery carriers including USPS and other delivery services as well as those seeking directions for well over fifty (50) years. The frustration this causes among our over combined 94,000 residents is palpable.
Throop is an established borough with its own identity and deserves recognition by having its own unique zip code - 18513. A distinct zip code will not only reduce confusion but also improve efficiency in mail delivery and other location-based services.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has an obligation to ensure accurate mail distribution across all communities in America. By assigning Throop its own unique zip code, they would be fulfilling this responsibility more effectively.
The Borough of Throop is located in the 8th Congressional District represented by the Honorable Congressman Matthew Cartwright and the Honorable Senator's Bob Casey and John Fetterman both representing our great state in the United States Senate. Please contact their offices in addition to signing this petition to show your support for this much needed administrative action.
We urge USPS to officially recognize the Borough of Throop with a unique zip code designation that reflects our community's individuality and importance within Lackawanna County. If you agree, please sign this petition.
