The Issue

In today's world, streaming services have become an integral part of our daily lives. As consumers, we rely on these services for entertainment, education, and much more. However, a growing concern among subscribers is the transparency regarding the actual duration of episodes and movies offered by these platforms.

Many streaming services present the length of their content without accounting for the time dedicated to advertisements. On average, an additional 11 minutes per hour is consumed by ads. This means that a movie or episode advertised today as 60 minutes can actually run for a total of 71+ minutes from start to finish. This lack of transparency is misleading to consumers and can significantly alter the viewing experience.

Furthermore, when services have different subscription tiers, often based on the amount of advertising, customers find it challenging to understand exactly what they're purchasing. This lack of clarity becomes evident only after a subscription has started, leaving consumers potentially feeling deceived and dissatisfied.

We propose that streaming services be required to include the total time, including expected advertisement duration, within the advertised time for their content. This will ensure that consumers are fully informed about what they are subscribing to and can make decisions that best suit their viewing preferences.

By promoting transparency in advertising durations, we protect consumers from unwittingly committing to contracts without full disclosure of advertising interruptions. Providing clear and concise content durations will significantly enhance consumer trust and satisfaction.

Join us in urging streaming platforms and regulators to mandate transparency in the advertising of content durations. Sign this petition to demand honesty, clarity, and respect for all streaming service subscribers.
