I am a resident of Healdsburg, Sonoma County, CA, and on April 20th, 2024 my animals were impounded without any clear explanation or paperwork. Out of four pets, only one was left with me. The lack of communication from the Animal Control Officers has been distressing and unacceptable. My repeated attempts to understand the reasons behind this action were met with silence until recently when I was falsely informed that my dog doesn't belong to me.

This is not an isolated incident but a systemic issue that needs immediate attention. Pet owners deserve transparency and respect when dealing with situations involving their beloved pets. We are calling for a mandate requiring Animal Control Officers to respond within 48 hours to pet owners whose animals have been impounded. They should provide clear reasons for impoundment along with an opportunity for the owner to rectify any issues.

Furthermore, we demand accountability for officers who act in an uncompassionate manner during these processes. It is crucial that they provide proper documentation upon impounding which includes information about the owner or person in possession of the animal.

Our pets are more than just animals; they are family members who bring joy and companionship into our lives. The emotional toll on both pet owners and their pets due to such abrupt separations can be significant.

Let's ensure our community treats all its members - human or animal - with dignity and respect they deserve by implementing these changes immediately.
