Mandate State Insurance Coverage for All Healthcare Workers

The Issue

I am a healthcare worker, as are many of my colleagues. We work tirelessly to support the health and wellbeing of our communities, yet we find ourselves constantly exposed to illnesses. Despite this exposure, very few people at our company are insured. This year alone, I have contracted strep throat twice with each medical bill totaling over $120. It is unacceptable that healthcare workers should bear the financial burden of seeking treatment and purchasing antibiotics when we are on the front lines of this field.

The situation is not unique to us; it reflects a broader issue in our society where those who care for others' health often struggle to afford their own healthcare costs. According to a study by The Commonwealth Fund (2019), nearly one-fourth of U.S adults aged 19-64 who had health insurance all year were "underinsured," meaning they had out-of-pocket costs or deductibles that were high relative to their income.

This petition calls for legislation requiring state insurance coverage for all healthcare workers - those who risk their lives daily deserve no less. Our contribution towards maintaining public health should be recognized and supported by ensuring we do not have to pay exorbitant fees when seeking medical care ourselves.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment and adequate protection for all healthcare workers - because no one should have to choose between their health and financial stability.
