Mandate Speed Hump Installation at The Children's Center of North Harford!

The Issue

Our beloved community preschool, The Children's Center of North Harford, needs your help! Each day, our staff and families try to safely escort our young students across the street while aggressive and negligent drivers flout the laws, often disregarding the crosswalk and signs put in place to protect these vulnerable pedestrians. This level of endangerment is unacceptable and demands urgent attention.

Every year in our nation, approximately 137,000 pedestrians are injured in road crashes, and more than 4,000 of those incidents prove fatal, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel. Speed humps have been proven to be 60% effective in reducing vehicle speeds, consequently decreasing the likelihood of fatal accidents, as reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Given this dire situation, it is both prudent and necessary to ask our Harford County Government to expedite the installation of speed humps near our preschool. This will not only address the immediate risk to our students but also contribute to overall pedestrian safety in the community.

Please, join us in signing this petition and urging the Government to take immediate action before it's too late. Do it for the safety and future of our children. Let us ensure they can walk to school safely. Sign today and be part of the change we need.

Responded
From the Office of the Harford County Executive Dear Petitioner: Public safety is of vital importance and we welcome inquiries from citizens seeking traffic calming devices. In fact, we have a program for residential neighborhoods (see attached) and we can look at commercial properties upon request. Our department of public works conducts these reviews and we have asked them to study The Children’s Center location on Highland Road. For future inquiries of any kind related to county government, please email us directly at citizensaffairs@harfordcountymd.gov, which is monitored 24/7. We generally respond within 24 hours, if not sooner. You may also call us directly at 410-638-3420, or use our customer service app, also available 24/7. https://www.harfordcountymd.gov/1737/You-Click-We-Fix. These are the most direct ways to ask questions and get answers from Harford County government.
