I am a resident of Murfreesboro, TN and have witnessed firsthand the deplorable conditions in which breeder dogs are kept and puppies are raised. This is a call to action for our community to take a stand against backyard breeding and the subsequent abandonment of dogs.

Backyard breeding often results in overpopulation, leading to many dogs being abandoned or surrendered to shelters. According to ASPCA statistics, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year (ASPCA). Many of these animals are victims of irresponsible breeding practices.

By mandating spaying/neutering for all dog owners in Murfreesboro, we can significantly reduce the number of unwanted puppies born into these conditions. This practice not only helps control the dog population but also prevents health issues such as uterine infections and breast tumors in female dogs and testicular cancer in male dogs (American Veterinary Medical Association).
