Over 100 supporters on this petition. Thank you to all!
Here is what we have heard so far.
"I was not aware that I was impacted"
"I have called the transportation office many times and got no valuable response"
"I am glad to see this. I did not know what to do"
"I just moved into South Plainfield. If I knew earlier I would have reconsidered. Seems unfair compared to other districts"
"I am a single parent, I have had to slow my business, and reduce my staff to support my child"
"We are both working parents, with no work flexibility, and one of us has mandatory travel 2-3 days of the week"
"My job is at jeopardy and I don't know what to do"
"I feel blessed that I have family close by who can help"
"I want to support however as a local school teacher I am afraid"
These are few but broad feedback Parents Of South Plainfield NJ has heard from those learning about this petition. Many more are unaware and even though we have had a staggering amount of support, it hardly touches impacted parents.
Facts:
- Decision to not provide transport was made in March and no parent was informed until summer. Why?
- Parents have been provided mixed feedback on eligibility. For example 2 mile radius. Is it driving, walking, designated routes?...no one knows and is a different answer.
- Some were told they have transportation and later didn't
- Some parents living less than 2 miles have bussing (no special need kids here which are exceptions)
- School and SPBOE has not considered the Hazardous routes guidelines as other districts have. Email for details.
- Subscription busing is provided in other districts.
- School district has not done their homework
- Escalated to Middlesex county and Trenton who agrees we have a valid POV.
The petition is now on Facebook - thanks to concerned parents: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/eD9acpJMJyEM98g5/
Parents have reached out to find alternate means. Its clear that the schools decisions and poor communication (almost seems intentional) has put families in jeopardy. If you are looking to carpool, find alternate means, reach out to parentsofsouthplainfieldnj@gmail.com to be connected.
The safety and security of South Plainfields kids is non-negotiable.
