The Issue

Truck drivers are the backbone of our economy, delivering the goods that businesses rely on. Yet, many shippers and receivers fail to provide safe, designated parking for truckers, forcing them into unsafe and unfair situations.

🚛 The Problem:

  • Drivers are forced to park on unsafe highway shoulders, risking accidents and fines.
  • Many truck stops are overcrowded, leaving truckers with no legal parking options.
  • Shippers and receivers refuse to allow trucks to park overnight, even when drivers have no other choice.
  • Some businesses use 53-ft trailers to cut costs but don’t have space for them to unload safely—forcing drivers to maneuver in tight areas, park illegally, or unload on the street, creating a major safety risk.

📊 The Reality:

  • 98% of truck drivers struggle to find safe parking at least once a week (ATRI, 2023).
  • In 2020, a truck driver was murdered in his cab while parked at an unsecured location because he had no safe alternatives.
  • Drivers lose nearly an hour per day searching for parking, leading to delays, fatigue, and lost income.
  • Shippers choose 53-ft trailers to reduce costs, even when they don't have the space for proper parking, resulting in loading or unloading on the street in unsafe conditions.

🚨 What We’re Demanding:

We are calling on lawmakers and transportation authorities to require all shippers and receivers to provide safe truck parking as a condition of doing business with the trucking industry.

Mandatory 24/7 truck parking ,Semi-trucks, tractor trailer ,at all shipping & receiving facilities.

✅ Penalties for businesses that fail to provide parking for Semi-trucks, tractor trailer—not truckers who have nowhere to park.

✅ If a facility does not have space or parking for Semi- trucks , tractor trailer  , they should not be allowed to do business with trucking industry .

✅ Parking areas must remain open at all times or provide a gate code for truckers arriving after hours.

✅ Clear  communication from shippers/receivers about available parking when transportation services are ordered.

Just  like  businesses must provide handicap parking, they should be required to provide truck parking if they rely on trucks.

🔥 Why This Matters:

  • Driver Safety – Truckers need a secure place to rest to prevent fatigue-related accidents.
  • Public Safety – Trucks parked on highways create hazards for all drivers.
  • Fairness – If a business relies on trucks, they should be required to provide parking for them Every business has parking for its customers—why not for the truckers  delivering their products?

🛑 Make It a Legal Requirement Like Handicap Parking

Businesses face fines if they don’t have handicap-accessible parking—the same should apply to truck parking. If a shipper or receiver doesn’t have space for trucks, they shouldn’t be allowed to do business with trucking industry.

This realistic, enforceable solution:

  • Reduces pressure on overcrowded truck stops and highways.
  • Holds businesses accountable that benefit them from transportation, instead of punishing truck drivers.
  • Brings consistency—if we require car and handicap parking, truck parking should be mandatory too.
  • Improves safety for both truckers and the public
  • Offers a realistic and long-term solution that doesn’t rely solely on building new truck stops.
  • This is a practical, enforceable, and fair solution that puts safety and respect back into the trucking industry.
