Mandate Reporting of Vehicle Accidents Involving Cats

The Issue

In the early hours of Monday, October 9th, our beloved (large) kitten was hit and killed by a car and left alone on the roadside.

Our family, especially our young children are completely heartbroken and we wont settle without at least attempting to make a change.

Another driver found him and took him home for the night, however I can’t help but wonder what the outcome would be had the original driver stopped and reported the incident.

We lost a family member that night.

This tragic incident has brought to light a significant issue that needs addressing – there is no legal requirement for drivers to report accidents involving cats. Unlike dogs, cats are not protected under UK law in this regard.

Every year, countless feline lives could be saved if immediate medical attention was sought following an accident.

According to Cats Protection League, an estimated 230,000 cats are killed on UK roads each year with many more injured (Cats Protection League). These numbers could be significantly reduced if drivers were legally required to report such incidents.

We need legislation that protects all pets equally and values their lives just as much as we do. It's time for change; it's time for our voices to be heard. We urge lawmakers to mandate reporting of vehicle accidents involving cats.

Please sign this petition and help us make a difference in the lives of our feline friends.
