Mandate Reporting of Cat Accidents

The Issue

Our latest rescue cat, who is only 15 months old, is just recovering from the trauma of being run over by a vehicle. This terrifying experience has not only been traumatizing for our little feline friend but also heartbreaking for us as pet owners. We are grateful she survived and is on the road to recovery, but it pains us to think that many other cats aren't as fortunate.

Cats are independent creatures and often roam freely in our neighborhoods. Unfortunately, this puts them at risk of being involved in accidents with vehicles. A staggering number of cats are hit by cars each year, with many of these incidents going unreported. When these occurrences remain unrecorded, it leaves pet owners in the dark, unable to find closure or justice for their beloved pets.

This issue isn't just about property damage; it is about the safety and well-being of our furry family members. Cat accidents can be devastating, not just for the animal itself but also for the owners who often consider them part of their family. The pain and uncertainty of not knowing what happened to a pet is an unbearable torment that no pet owner should have to endure.

We believe that by mandating the reporting of accidents involving cats, we can make our streets safer for these cherished companions. Reporting should be a requirement for drivers; it should be as obligatory as reporting an accident with another vehicle. Not only will this provide vital information to pet owners, but it will also allow for statistical data collection to help prevent future incidents.

Many countries and cities have already implemented compulsory reporting of pet accidents, and they have seen significant improvements in public awareness and animal welfare. It's time we follow suit to protect the cats in our community.

Let's come together to ensure that every hit-and-run incident involving a cat is reported. By signing this petition, you help us take a significant step toward recognizing and addressing the issue to advocate for policy change and protect our feline friends. Encourage your local government and lawmakers to take action now. Please sign this petition and pave the way for safer streets for cats.
