I have personally experienced the heart-wrenching loss of two beloved cats, victims of hit-and-run incidents. My cat Miley was found under a van across the road from my house, having been struck by a car. The driver did not stop or report the incident, leaving Miley to suffer alone. This tragedy has amplified my grief and pain, knowing that if they had stopped, perhaps I could have saved her.

Cats are cherished members of our families and deserve the same rights as dogs when it comes to traffic accidents. Currently in many jurisdictions, drivers who hit dogs are required to report it and provide assistance if possible; however, this is not the case for cats.

The lack of legal obligation towards cats in such situations leaves them vulnerable and their owners devastated. It's time we recognize that all pets matter equally and should be treated with compassion regardless of species.

We urge lawmakers to amend existing laws or enact new ones requiring drivers who hit cats to stop at the scene, report it immediately, and provide assistance where possible. This change will ensure that no cat is left suffering on the side of a road after an accident while also providing some peace for their grieving owners.
