Mandate Public Access to Lake Burien, WA

The Issue

As a resident and taxpayer in Burien, WA, I am deeply concerned about the lack of public access to Lake Burien. This beautiful natural resource is currently inaccessible to the general public due to private ownership of all surrounding land. This situation not only deprives us residents of enjoying our local lake but also contradicts the principles of fair use and equity.

Lake Burien is a 44-acre freshwater lake that has been privately owned since its discovery. However, it's important to note that many other lakes in Washington State are publicly accessible and enjoyed by their local communities (source: Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife). Why should Lake Burien be any different?

Public access to natural resources such as lakes promotes community engagement, outdoor recreation, and mental health benefits associated with nature exposure (source: American Public Health Association). By denying public access to Lake Burien, we are missing out on these significant benefits.

Therefore, we call on the City Council of Burien and relevant authorities in Washington State Government to mandate public access rights for all residents of our city. Let's make sure everyone can enjoy what our beautiful city has to offer! Please sign this petition if you believe in equitable access for all residents.
