Mandate proper waste segregation in Mabolo, Cebu City

The Issue

Living in Mabolo, Cebu City, I have frequently witnessed areas around our community where trash accumulates, creating unsightly and unsanitary conditions. This painful observation becomes personal when trash clogs the hallways and pathways, obstructing the way and marring the beauty of our surroundings.

Poor waste management has been a persistent issue in many parts of the city, leading to environmental degradation, health hazards, and a decline in the quality of life for residents. The presence of clogged waste inhibits rainwater flow, contributing to flooding and creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests. According to the Global Waste Management Outlook by the United Nations Environment Programme, improper waste management impacts public health and the environment directly by polluting water, air, and soil.

To address these issues, we call on local authorities to implement a strict waste segregation policy for all residents and businesses in Mabolo. This includes providing sufficient waste bins for different types of waste like biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable materials. Regular community workshops and seminars should be conducted to educate residents on proper waste segregation practices and the benefits.

Furthermore, establishing a reliable waste collection schedule is essential to ensure that waste is regularly and properly disposed of. Incentives could be introduced to encourage compliance from the community, such as rewards for households that consistently segregate waste correctly.

Enforcing these measures will not only enhance the cleanliness and aesthetics of Mabolo but also improve public health, preserve the environment, and foster a sense of community responsibility. Let us take pride in our beautiful community by ensuring it remains clean and inviting for everyone.

Please sign this petition to urge local government officials in Mabolo, Cebu City to take immediate action towards mandatory waste segregation and improved waste management practices.
