Mandate Proper Training for Breed Identification Before Dog Euthanasia

Mandate Proper Training for Breed Identification Before Dog Euthanasia
The Issue
I am deeply moved to start this petition due to the alarming number of dogs being sentenced to death because they have been incorrectly labelled as a banned breed by dog wardens and Dog Legislation Officers (DLO). The current system lacks adequate checks and balances. It allows for the life or death decision of a dog to be made based on one person's assessment, which may not always be accurate due to lack of proper training or bias. This is unacceptable.
It is crucial that we ensure all dog wardens, DLOs, and anyone else tasked with identifying a dog's breed are fully trained and qualified in assessing breeds correctly. Incorrect identification can lead to unnecessary euthanasia of innocent animals. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, visual identification of breeds has an accuracy rate of only 25% (AVMA Journal). This means that three out of four dogs could potentially be misidentified.
Furthermore, it should be mandatory that a second opinion is sought before any decision is made regarding the life or death of an animal based on its breed. A single person's judgement should not determine the fate of these 4 legged friends who cannot advocate for themselves. Wr have to be their voice
We ask lawmakers to enact legislation requiring rigorous training in breed identification for all relevant officers and mandating second opinions before euthanizing any dog suspected of being a banned breed. Please sign this petition if you believe in justice for all dogs, let's ensure no more innocent dogs lose their lives due to incorrect breed identification
