Personal struggle sparked the initiative for this proposal. I vividly recall the helplessness I felt when a stray cat in my garden gave birth to two kittens, only to have their lives cruelly snatched away by foxes. The local vets informed me, time after time, that their neutering slots were fully booked for the next four weeks. This tragic debacle repeated itself, leading to the birth of four more kittens now under my care. The insufficiency of spaying and neutering services is a reason behind the persistent predicament we find ourselves concerning the overpopulation and mortality rate of kittens. Hence, this petition stands in favor of private vets offering at least 20 affordable neutering and spaying vouchers, priced at £10, to support pets and local vet charities.

The PDSA’s PAW report in 2020 revealed approximately 19% of cats in the UK remain unneutered, equating to more than 2.2 million felines potentially contributing to the cat population crisis (source: PDSA). The situation reorients the discussion on the urgency of affordable neutering and spaying services.

Hence, we implore that private vets rise to the occasion and share the responsibility with local vet charities in alleviating the impact of pet overpopulation and preventing the tragic instances that many like myself have endured.
