Like many others in our community, my heart breaks every time I see abandoned dogs on our streets. This heart-wrenching sight is often the result of home owners pressurizing residents to vacate because the property does not accommodate pets. This issue is close to my heart, and I firmly believe that everyone should have the right to own a pet without facing societal pushback or eviction threats.

Pets provide comfort, companionship, and have proven beneficial impacts on our mental and emotional well-being. The Human-Animal Bond Research Institute notes that pets help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. They also encourage healthy lifestyle habits such as regular exercise and outdoor activities. Despite these benefits, several residential buildings and apartment complexes continue to enforce policies that discourage or outright ban pets.

It is high time we bring about a change in these archaic policies that separate pets from their loving homes. We are requesting that legislation be established to mandate all residential buildings and apartment complexes to implement pet-friendly policies. No property owner should have the right to question why a resident has a pet or to evict them on the grounds of a property not being "pet friendly".

This pressing issue impacts thousands of pets and their owners across the nation, contributing to the growing number of abandoned pets. Let's put an end to this unjust practice and advocate for pet-friendly policies in homes across the country.
