As an Ontarian deeply affected by this issue, I understand firsthand the importance of Independent Legal Advice (ILA) prior to the registrations of Notices of Security Interest (NOSIs) that impact our property titles. Currently, anyone can register, discharge and assign NOSIs via the Land Registry Office (LRO), which can lead to complications and potential legal issues for property owners in Ontario.

In 2019 alone, there were over 1 million real estate transactions in Ontario. Without a mandate requiring only qualified Ontario lawyers to handle these sensitive matters, countless Ontarians are left at risk of having their property rights mishandled or even violated.

By limiting these actions strictly to licensed lawyers within our province who have a comprehensive understanding of our unique laws and regulations surrounding property rights and real estate transactions – we can ensure that all Ontarians receive appropriate legal advice before any changes are made that could affect their properties' title.
