As a community deeply affected by the alarming increase of school shootings, we have felt the fear and pain of these horrific incidents in our own backyard. Our kids go to school to learn and not to fear for their safety. Yet, that fear is a reality for students in Metro Nashville Public Schools, especially Antioch High School.

We propose the introduction of metal detectors and wands in all schools, beginning with high schools. Antioch High School taking the lead. 

This method of safety is already being conducted at high school football games. Let’s cover these children during the week, as well!

Reports such as those by the National Institute of Justice affirm that metal detectors can prevent the smuggling of weapons to school, therefore reducing the likelihood of violence on-campus. As an added benefit, local businesses would welcome the contract and prospects of improving school safety.
