My name is Sonia, and I was unceremoniously thrust into the world of alternative medicine following a severe health crisis that almost took my life. I sought help from the traditional medical system, but after many attempts they were unable to help resolve my health issues.   I eventually found relief and recovery through naturopathic, holistic, and chiropractic care.  However, these crucial services cost me over $200,000 out-of-pocket over the years due to not being covered by traditional insurances including Medicare.

This experience inspired me to fight for a policy reform that should have been initiated long ago. It is heartbreaking thinking of how many people might be unable to afford the lifesaving care they need. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health tells us that nearly 40% of adults use some form of alternative medicine. Given its widespread use, it is both distressing and unjust that many of these services are not covered by Medicare. We are calling for a revision of Medicare policies to include coverage for all services provided by naturopathic practitioners, alternative medicine practitioners, chiropractors including hyperbaric chamber treatments - a widely recognized and approved therapy. This is not just an appeal for affordability, but also for increased medical choice and overall health improvement. We deserve a healthcare system that acknowledges and caters to the diverse needs of all patients.

We can no longer stand by as citizens suffer due to their inability to afford these necessary treatments. We urge Medicare to broaden its coverage and include all services within the realm of naturopathic, holistic, and chiropractic care.
