In a society where furry friends can sometimes seem better protected than our own children, the need for the administration of justice for innocent young lives is apparent and heartbreaking. This is a personal plea. My baby brother was strangled merely a week after placement in state custody. My little sister suffered molestation shortly thereafter, and both monstrosities got defense from the state despite damning evidence. My brothers and sister were left alone and vulnerable in the middle of Syracuse at such tender ages of 8, 5 and 6. This isn't mere happenstance, it is a failing system and we cry out for justice. 

Child abusers and pedophiles constantly elude the full grasp of the law, a reality that becomes even more appalling when we consider that according to the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, only 5% to 10% of child molesters will ever see the inside of a cell, even when presented with empirical evidence. That percentage needs to change. We should not let those who have proven to harm our children walk free under any circumstances.

This petition aims to make it mandatory for all convicted child abusers and pedophiles to serve the maximum sentence, regardless of any mitigating factors that may currently dilute their punishment. Our children deserve better. Our society deserves better. The rule of law deserves better. Stand with us.
