Bring Back Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High-school's Gymnastics Team
The Issue
As students and gymnasts at Lincoln-Sudbury, we find ourselves in a predicament. Our school lacks a gymnastics team, forcing many of us to convert to cheerleading - a fall sport or dropping the sport. This leaves us without an outlet for our passion during the winter season. The addition of a gymnastics team would not only benefit us but also provide more opportunities for other students seeking diverse sports options.
Gymnastics is not just about physical fitness; it's about discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. It helps build character and resilience among young people - qualities that are invaluable in life beyond high school (American Academy of Pediatrics). Moreover, there is already an existing pool of talent within our school that could thrive with the right platform.
Participation in this sport can improve physical health, increase flexibility and strength, enhance coordination and balance, boost self-esteem and instill life skills such as goal setting. (USA Gymnastics)
In Massachusetts alone, over 20% of high schools have competitive gymnastics teams (Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association). We believe it's time for Lincoln-Sudbury to join these ranks and support its student athletes' interests and aspirations.
By establishing a gymnastics team, they would be promoting inclusivity in sports participation while nurturing the talents of their students. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to participate in the sports they love throughout all seasons of the year. We urge Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High-School administration to consider taking this more in depth which will greatly enrich our school's athletic program while providing an essential outlet for those passionate about this sport.
