Mandate Licensing for All Cat Breeders to Prevent Cruelty and Uncontrolled Breeding

Mandate Licensing for All Cat Breeders to Prevent Cruelty and Uncontrolled Breeding
The Issue
As a longtime witness to the cruel side-effects of unregulated cat breeding, I am raising my voice to seek change. I have grown frustrated seeing posts about neutered toms straying and getting into fights, witnessing the ignorance of people who think it is okay to not neuter their pets. Rescues are filled to the brink aiding unwanted and feral cats, and we're finding numerous un-neutered cats being let loose to breed, only worsening the predicament. Some breed kittens for money with litter after litter, and there is no law in place to stop this. The distressing reality is that unlicensed breeding often leads to the spread of diseases like FeLV amongst kittens.
We need a law that mandates licensing for anyone who breeds kittens. This will not only curtail unchecked breeding but also reduce kitten cruelty that often accompanies unlicensed breeding practices. In England and Wales, an estimated 250,000 cats were bred by unlicensed breeders in 2020 (RSPCA), showing the scale of the problem.
By enacting this change, we can ensure a safe and more controlled breeding process, reducing the spread of diseases and instances of animal cruelty. It's high time we put a stop to the unfettered breeding that leads to widespread animal suffering. Please, sign this petition and show your support for a more humane, regulated cat breeding environment.
