Mandate Licensing and Vetting for Potential Dog Owners

The Issue

As personal witnesses to the escalating dog attacks in the U.K, we declare that the current situation is unacceptable. Irresponsible dog ownership has led to innocent lives being compromised and in the worst cases, tragic fatalities ensue. The inescapable pain and horror of children being mauled are both terrifying and preventable. Therefore, we demand new laws requiring all potential dog owners to undergo thorough vetting and licensing procedures to assess their suitability - a standard protocol to protect our society.

Moreover, while we understand the comfort pets can provide, those relying on state benefits should be temporarily restricted from obtaining a dog. Statistics show a correlation between dog attacks and deprived areas, suggesting that economically disadvantaged individuals may lack the resources needed for responsible dog ownership. We believe this restriction can serve as a buffer, preventing those unable to adequately care for a dog from owning one, consequently reducing the number of dog attacks.

The potential for human life to be lost is too great to ignore these glaring issues in dog ownership. For the sake of our children and the overall safety of our communities, change is necessary. Future generations should not have to fear being victims of a dog attack.

We urge everyone to stand with us in this fight against irresponsible dog ownership. Let us work together to bring about this much-needed change, making our neighbourhoods safer spaces for all. Please sign this petition.
