On April 17th, I drove my son to his bus stop in Holbrook, AZ. To our horror, we found a dead horse dumped at the site. The sight was traumatic for us adults; one can only imagine the impact it had on the children who saw it. Despite reaching out to multiple governmental offices and law enforcement agencies, none have taken responsibility for this incident.

This is not an isolated case. Instances of animal cruelty towards livestock are prevalent across Arizona but often go uninvestigated due to lack of jurisdiction or resources. It's high time we address this issue head-on.

We propose that local law enforcement be required to investigate cases of animal cruelty towards livestock in our state. This would ensure accountability and justice for these voiceless victims while also protecting our community from such disturbing sights.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) states that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law (ASPCA). Yet, here in Arizona, we find ourselves lacking when it comes to enforcing these principles.
