Mandate Installation of CCTV and Spike Prevention Accessories in Bars and Clubs

Mandate Installation of CCTV and Spike Prevention Accessories in Bars and Clubs
The Issue
I was having a serene night in December 2022 when disaster struck. I was spiked, almost lost my life, and it wreaked havoc on my physical and mental well-being for the four long months that followed. I experienced continuous seizures, breathing difficulties and ended up with a catheter and oxygen mask. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, which seriously affected the quality of my life, especially my university life. It was so traumatic that I found myself in a mental health priory moments away from ending my life, all due to the profound impact this incident had on me.
Today, I am here with a plea: to prevent such upsetting episodes from happening ever again. It's unnecessary, preventable and high time we ensure the safety of people in bars, clubs, and pubs.
Unfortunately, drink spiking isn't rare. An estimated 1 in 13 people have reported having their drink spiked (source: Alcohol.org.nz). Hence, it is crucial to install security cameras across the entirety of each venue, helping capture such despicable acts and aid prosecution. Further, all bars, clubs, and pubs should stock spiking prevention accessories - a simple precautionary tool capable of protecting many from potential harm.
The benefits of implementing these changes are clear, leading not only to increased prevention but also to faster resolution of such incidents. And, let's face it - the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of the public shouldn't be compromised for something avoidable.
Therefore, I implore you - for everyone who enjoys a night out, for the safety of our friends and loved ones, and for a secure environment for socialising - sign this petition. Let's urge bar, club, and pub owners to rise to this challenge and be part of the solution. Their efforts could save a life. Your signature could save a life. Please, sign this petition.
