My daughter is a victim of bullying. She, like many other students in the Sumter School District, has suffered silently and endured the pain that no child should ever experience. It's time we take a stand against bullying and discrimination in our schools.

Bullying is not just an isolated issue; it's a widespread problem that affects countless children across our district. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 22% of students are victims to bullying. Mind you, that’s with the numbers schools report to the state on. SC is rated 6th worst state for school systems due to bullying & decrease in academic scores. 85% of parents will do nothing to stop school bullying in the state of South Carolina. Bullying starts as early as kindergarten. It’s our responsibility as parents to make sure our child(ren) are in a safe school environment. 

Cameras will serve as an unbiased witness to any incidents occurring within the school including classrooms; providing evidence when necessary and acting as a deterrent against potential bullies or discriminators. The presence of cameras also reassures parents that their children are safe while at school.

We urge you to support this initiative not only for my daughter but also for all students who deserve to learn without fear or discomfort. Let us ensure safety and fairness by requiring all spaces excluding restrooms/locker rooms,  in Sumter School District to have installed cameras.
