The personal journey of my companion, Ludo, who came into my life four years ago from Hesperia animal shelter, has compelled me to start this petition. There's a daunting thought that always lingers in my mind—had he been at the shelter a few months longer; he might've become a victim of the alarming rise in euthanized animals. What is happening is senseless; the forced euthanasia implemented on surrendered animals is contrary to the ethical treatment of pets.

The shelter that once promised to uphold humane practices is no longer doing so. Over the past few years, conditions have taken a downturn, becoming increasingly inhumane due to overpopulation, and the surging mandated surrender of pets. From a loving family, they're taken to the pound merely because owners couldn't bear the skyrocketing prices required to reclaim their pets. With the influx of surrendered animals, forced euthanasia is often used as a management strategy.

Hesperia, our city loves and values our pets, and it's time we extend this love to every animal in the shelter. Let us stand up and demand change! We cannot allow an institution that promised humanity to operate in such a disturbing manner. We call on the Hesperia animal shelter to stop the unnecessary killing of helpless pets and abide by their commitment to run a humane animal shelter.
