We are residents of Haverhill, living in properties managed by the Havebury Housing Association. Our homes are plagued with damp, mould, and condensation problems that pose a threat to our health and quality of life.

The World Health Organization has stated that dampness is a strong, consistent indicator of risk for asthma and respiratory symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. In addition, exposure to mould can lead to eye irritation, sneezing fits, skin rashes or even more severe allergic reactions (source: WHO Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality).

Despite numerous complaints lodged by us residents over time, the housing association has failed to adequately address these issues. This negligence leaves us exposed to harmful conditions every day.

Following the tragic death of two year old Awaab Ishakm in 2022, the then Secretary of State for Levelling Up reminded Social Housing providers of their responsibilities to ensure that residents concerns surrounding damp and mould hazards were being thoroughly addressed. Havebury Housing Association have continued to disregard that instruction up to this time.

We call upon local authorities in Haverhill and the UK government at large to mandate Havebury Housing Association take immediate action in resolving these persistent dampness and mould problems. It's high time our concerns were taken seriously.
