Mandate Georgia to Conduct Soil and Water Testing for Radon

Mandate Georgia to Conduct Soil and Water Testing for Radon

The Issue

Georgia residents are experiencing the horrifying effects of Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, which has been scientifically linked to causing lung cancer, stomach cancer, and other severe health issues. On behalf of all Georgians, we are calling for the state to undertake comprehensive soil and water testing for Radon, to safeguard the health of its residents.

Radon is a silent killer that can infiltrate our lives without our knowledge. According to the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, and is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year (source: U.S. EPA). In addition, a study conducted by the National Cancer Institute confirmed a significant association between exposure to Radon and stomach cancer risk (source: National Cancer Institute).

Yet, despite its deadly nature, Georgia does not require soil and water testing for Radon. It's time that we demand the government to take immediate and concrete steps toward Radon testing. Our health and lives, as well as those of future generations, are critically dependent on it.

Join us in compelling Georgia to mandate comprehensive testing for Radon in our soil and water. Together, we can bring about a change that may save thousands of lives each year. Please, sign this petition!
