I am a legally blind individual who travels frequently. Living on a fixed income and being in college, the additional $30-$50 fee to check my suitcase is not just an inconvenience, it's a financial burden. It's also a safety issue as navigating through crowded airports with my suitcase for hours is challenging.

This isn't just about me; there are approximately 61 million adults in the United States living with some form of disability (CDC, 2020). Many of these individuals rely on air travel for work, medical treatments or family visits and face similar challenges. The added cost of checking bags can be prohibitive for those already dealing with limited resources.

We believe that all domestic airlines should be required to provide free checked bags for disabled passengers - not as an act of charity but as a necessary accommodation to ensure equal access to safe and convenient travel.

I urge lawmakers and regulatory bodies in the aviation industry to consider this change seriously. It's time we make air travel more accessible and equitable for everyone regardless of their physical abilities or financial situation.
