Mandate Fort Collins City to Adopt Organic Methods for Weed and Grass Management in Parks

The Issue

As a parent whose children frequently play at local parks and playgrounds in Fort Collins, I am deeply concerned about the possible exposure they might get from the non-organic weed and grass control practices currently implemented by the city. These practices often use chemicals which, according to a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, can have harmful effects on human health, particularly children who are more susceptible due to their lower body weight (Ismail et al., 2020).

Therefore, this petition calls for the city of Fort Collins to shift towards organic control methods. Organic gardening increases biodiversity, aids in soil conservation, and eliminates the risks associated with synthetic pesticides, according to the National Institute of Health. By transitioning to these practices, we can ensure that our children play in safer and greener parks and playgrounds. It's time for Fort Collins to stand up for the health of its residents, especially its young ones, and to set an example for other cities in the US to follow.

Please, sign this petition to urge the Fort Collins City Council to adopt organic methods for weed and grass management in our parks. Let's secure safer environments for our children to grow in.
