I am ever so grateful to have received the following email from Helen Blythe - the founder of Benedict’s Law;

Hi Angela,
Thanks for your email and I'm sorry you've had those negative experiences at school. Any reaction is distressing, and when it's to a known allergen it is totally unnecessary.
You may have already seen the recent recommendation from us at Benedict Blythe Foundation alongside National Allergy Strategy Group in our position paper https://www.benedictblythe.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/BBF_position_document_16pp_A4_v3_compressed.pdf which asks for DfE to initiate a consultation on the issue of individual healthcare plans for allergy- something they're looking to do in the autumn.
We met with DfE three times over the last month and the Minister for Early Years and this is something they're looking into very thoroughly at the moment. We agree that IHPs aren't in place as much as we would like, supported by the stats of our own REACT report.
We understand allergy care plans are an important part of a whole school allergy approach- but the plans need to be understood and communicated effectively to make a difference. Some of the points you mention in the plans are covered off in the model allergy policy developed by BSACI, and is something that Benedict's Law would look to make mandatory.
It's definitely important to raise this aspect of school allergy care and it's amazing you're doing so. We will of course make sure we sign,
Kind regards,
Helen Blythe
