I am a California law enforcement professional with over 22 years of experience. As a traffic administrator, I have witnessed firsthand the unsafe practices of electric bicycle riders, particularly among our youth. This has spurred me to take action because current bike education is simply not enough.

Our nonprofit organization, VoltVerified (www.voltverified.org), leverages over 60 years of combined law enforcement experience to create educational content that includes e-learning with effective hands-on training. We believe that empowering every bicycle rider with exceptional safety knowledge can significantly reduce crashes and preserve life.

In California alone, there were 455 bicyclist fatalities between 2016 and 2018 - the highest number in any U.S state (source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for comprehensive safety education for all cyclists. Not to mention, in 2022, there were 1.1 million e-bikes sold in the United States, which is almost four times as many as were sold in 2019. 

We fully support SAFE e-bike use for ALL riders! As the number of e-bikes increases we aim to reduce the number of collisons in our community. 

But...

We REFUSE to ignore the growing concern of unsafe riding behaviors. We propose the creation of NEW legislation requiring mandatory comprehensive safety training for inexperienced electric bicycle riders in California,  particularly under 18. The education we propose includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for safe cycling on our roads.
