In recent years, we've witnessed the ongoing issues surrounding financial transparency within some First Nations governments in Saskatchewan. As a member of a First Nation who deeply cares about the well-being and future of our communities, it is upsetting to see cases where financial corruption seems to be at play, particularly when it impacts the quality of life for Indigenous peoples.

Despite not all First Nations being affected, there is a growing concern about certain groups, such as the Little Pine First Nation under the former Chief Wayne Semaganis and Carl Kennedy's leadership, which displays questionable financial practices, outright theft. This perception of corruption and lack of transparency fosters feelings of mistrust and disillusionment among the members and neighboring communities, affecting inter-community relationships and economic development.

Transparency in financial dealings is crucial to ensure accountability, trust, and proper allocation of funds meant for housing, education, and healthcare. Maintaining open financial records can deter corruption, empower community members, and ensure that funds are used appropriately to foster development and sustainability within these communities.

The leaders of all First Nations governments in Saskatchewan (also the Battleford's Tribal Council under the leadership of Randy Wallace who has been CEO for over 45 years, the Battleford's Agency Tribal Chiefs and the Federated Sovereign Indian Nations (FSIN) under the leadership of Bobby Cameron) should be required to publicly disclose their financial records, similar to other governmental bodies. Implementing a stringent policy for financial transparency will not only restore trust but also encourage a culture of openness and integrity.

Join me in urging the provincial government to enact legislation that mandates First Nations governments in Saskatchewan to disclose their financial information to the public. This is not just about ensuring accountability but safeguarding the future for all residents of Saskatchewan. Sign this petition and let's foster an environment of trust and ethical governance.
