Mandate fair child support payments by all biological parents
The Issue
In our family, my four children and I have been navigating life without the financial support from their father. After ten years of relationship and marriage, we separated, and since then, he hasn't contributed fairly to their upbringing. It pains me to share that despite his responsibility as a parent, my children only receive a meager £29.13 in total each month because he is now on benefits and yet even with child maintenance service taking payments, if he has an advance out or something takes PRIORITY in their words, this meager payment has to wait, so stacks to arrears which my children will never see. This leaves me struggling to make ends meet and provide for my children at times.
This situation is not unique to my family; many parents across the uk face the same hardship. Children deserve fair financial support from both biological parents to ensure they grow in a stable and nurturing environment. However, the current system is failing to provide adequate financial assistance to children whose parents evade their responsibilities due to being on benefits, avoiding any responsibilities.
Therefore, I urge policymakers to reform the child support payment structure to make it mandatory for all biological parents to pay fair living expenses. Every child should have the same financial support set individually and not as part of a collective group of children. This will discourage parents from having more children without taking financial responsibility, preventing families from struggling financially due to one parent's negligence, when I set out on having a family, I expected to bring our children up together! Whether together or not that was and should be our choice when we decided to grow a family.
Let us work toward a fairer system that ensures each child receives what they rightfully deserve from both of their biological parents. It's time for a change that acknowledges the importance of equal parental contribution, irrespective of the parent's employment status or benefits received. Sign this petition to demand necessary reforms and give children the support they deserve.
