Mandate Equal Housing for Unhoused Women ,Disabled an Elderly in Denton
The Issue
As an advocate deeply aware of the challenges faced by the unhoused community in Denton, I am calling for immediate action to ensure fair and equitable housing for women, the disabled, and the elderly. Currently, the housing system in Denton unfairly allocates seven rooms to men while women are given only three rooms, each housing twelve people. This imbalance leaves women and vulnerable groups at a higher risk of robbery or violence.
Women, especially those who are elderly or disabled, are more likely to encounter dangers when forced into overcrowded and inadequate housing conditions. A 50/50 split in housing facilities would not only reflect fairness but ensure safety and dignity for all individuals in need of assistance in Denton.
In addition, decisions regarding the suspension or criminal trespassing of at-risk groups, including the elderly and disabled, should involve comprehensive assessments by case managers. These professionals are better equipped to understand the complexities related to these individuals' circumstances and can make informed decisions that prioritize their safety and well-being.
Homelessness is a critical issue that requires fair, humane, and sensitive approaches that recognize the different needs and risks of various groups. Achieving equal housing rights and informed decision-making policies are crucial steps in protecting and empowering our most vulnerable citizens.
Join me in demanding a more just and equitable system for the unhoused women, the elderly, and disabled individuals in Denton. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and be part of the change needed in our community.
