Mandate Employment of Marine Ecologists in All Oil Companies
The Issue
As people deeply passionate about the environment and the countless organisms that dwell within it, We are urging for the immediate and compulsory involvement of marine ecologists in every oil company. Marine ecosystems are fragile, complex, and intricately linked to human survival. Yet, every year oil spills and drilling contamination result in the destruction of these ecosystems, putting at risk the lives of million species and our own future. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 14,000 oil spills are reported each year.
Marine ecologists, with their specific expertise and understanding of these ecosystems, are primed to aid in the detection, prevention, and mitigation of this destruction. However, their involvement in the operations of oil companies is not mandatory. This reality leaves these ecosystems at an even greater risk.
Incorporating marine ecologists into oil company workflows will ensure regular inspection and monitoring of operations, thus helping to avoid environmental catastrophes. It’s high time we translate our concern about environmental sustainability into actual polices. Help us protect the environment and secure a safer future for our marine life and ourselves. Sign this petition to require all oil companies to employ marine ecologists for regular work inspection.
