Mandate Employers to Encourage Employee Participation in Social Causes on Feb 29, 2024
The Issue
As an employment consultant with a keen interest in social impact programmes, I have seen firsthand the potential for positive change when individuals are given the opportunity to contribute to their communities or global causes. This is why I am advocating for a policy that would require all employers to encourage their employees to use February 29, 2024 as a day dedicated to supporting good causes.
Leap Day, occurring once every four years, provides us with an extra day. For salaried staff, this often means an additional unpaid working day. Instead of profiting from this extra time at the expense of employees, we propose that businesses 'release' their workforce on this day for community service or other charitable activities.
Last year 14.2 million people in the UK volunteered through a group, club or organisation. According to the National Council fo Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) volunteering improves mental and physical health, improves social cohesion and supports society's most vulnerable.
By encouraging employees' participation in social causes on Leap Day 2024 - not only will we be fostering a culture of giving back within our workplaces but also contributing towards individual well-being and societal development.
Join me in urging all employers across our nation – let's make February 29th not just another working day but one where we collectively give back and support good causes. Please sign this petition today!
