Mandate Disclosure of Asbestos Contamination in American Housing

Mandate Disclosure of Asbestos Contamination in American Housing
The Issue
Due to the extensive use of asbestos in the construction of American buildings before 1980, millions of homes in the United States could potentially be contaminated with the harmful substance. Asbestos exposure poses serious health risks, including conditions such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and pulmonary fibrosis. Despite these risks, there's currently no federal law requiring landlords or real estate agents to inform potential buyers of asbestos contamination. This lack of transparency puts homebuyers at risk, who are unknowingly exposing themselves and their families to harm.
We demand policy makers to enact a law requiring real estate agents and landlords to disclose the presence of asbestos in properties listed for sale. Homebuyers have the right to know about the potential dangers they are exposing themselves to when they purchase a home.
Help us protect the health and wellbeing of American families. Demand transparency on asbestos contamination by signing this petition.
On a more personal note, my grandfather is currently battling pulmonary fibrosis. A gruesome and incurable disease that causes progressive scarring of lung tissue, ultimately leading to death by suffocation. Asbestosis, a type of pulmonary fibrosis, is a lung disease caused by asbestos exposure. In order to prevent people like my grandfather from suffering a terrible death, please sign this petition and aid in my hope of mandating asbestos contamination disclosures.
