The Issue

As an avid movie enthusiast, I was deeply disappointed when I discovered that Tom Arnold, who made a guest appearance as the cowboy in the casino restroom in one of my favorite movies, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, was not credited for his role. Similarly, Kevin Conway's brilliant portrayal of Crum Petree, the mailman in George Roy Hill's Funny Farm (1988), also went uncredited. This lack of recognition for actors who appear on screen and deliver lines is disheartening.

Every year thousands of actors play small but significant roles in films and TV shows without receiving due credit. According to a 2019 report by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), around 37% of all acting roles are uncredited ("Background Actor Casting Report", SAG-AFTRA). This not only denies these artists their rightful acknowledgment but also affects their career progression as they miss out on opportunities to showcase their work.

We believe that every actor who appears on screen with lines should be credited regardless of how minor their role might seem. Their contribution to storytelling is just as important as any other aspect involved in creating a film or TV show.

Let us stand together for fair recognition within our entertainment industry. Sign this petition today to mandate crediting all actors appearing with lines in movies and television shows!
