Mandate Cornish Language Education in Cornwall Schools

Mandate Cornish Language Education in Cornwall Schools
The Issue
As a Cornwall native, I've always felt a strong connection to our beautiful region and its rich cultural heritage. The Cornish language forms a core part of this heritage. The situation now, however, is gathering cause for concern as our language is losing out in our schools to French and Spanish. This isn't about aversion for these languages, but the need to preserve our unique linguistic heritage; the embodiment of our identity in Cornwall.
Astoundingly, only an estimated 300-400 people among the entire population of Cornwall are fluent in the language (source: UNESCO Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger). Despite UNESCO's recognition of Cornish under the "critically endangered" status, our own schools lack programs to teach it to our young children.
Requiring all schools in Cornwall to teach the Cornish language is necessary. Not only does it enable more citizens to connect with, appreciate, and perpetuate our distinct culture, but it also instills pride in our beloved county.
Help me urge our schools and education departments to take immediate action. Together, we can ensure the survival of our Cornish language and contribute immensely to preserving our cultural inheritance. Your signature has the power to help keep our language alive. Please, sign this petition today.
